EPIA'03 - 11th Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence
Call for Papers
1st Portuguese Workshop
on
Artificial
Life and Evolutionary Algorithms - ALEA'03
http://www.di.uevora.pt/epia03/alea/
part of the
4th-7th December 2003
Beja, Portugal
Aims and Scope
Artificial Life(AL) and Evolutionary
Algorithms(EA) have often been shown to be effective in solving
difficult complex problems appearing in various industrial,
economical, and scientific domains. ALEA'03 is the first
international event occurring in Portugal specifically dedicated
both to the theory and application of AL and EA.
This workshop will give researchers a good opportunity to present
their latest research and to discuss current developments and
applications, besides stimulating closer future interaction
between members of these scientific communities. ALEA'03
wants to bring together outstanding international researchers in
these fields for the first time in Portugal.
The workshop will consist of an invited talk, oral presentations
and poster sessions. The best accepted papers will appear
in the proceedings published by Springer in the LNCS
series. The other accepted papers and the posters will have a one
page abstract in the same proceedings book.
The workshop is sponsored by APPIA, the
Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence. It
will be part of a set of Workshops that, together, will constitute
the Portuguese Conference on Artifical Intelligence
(EPIA'03).
General topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
-
Genetic Algorithms
- Evolutionary Strategies
- Evolutionary Programming
- Genetic Programming
- Classifier Systems
- Evolutionary Robotics
- Parallel Evolutionary Algorithms
- Evolution Dynamics
- Artificial Immune System
- Ant Colonies
- Cultural Algorithms
- (Particle) Swarm Algorithms
Important Dates
May, 30: Draft papers due (extended)

reviewing process is double blind. Authors should remove
names from the submitted papers, and should take reasonable care
that their identity is disguised. References to own work can be
included in the paper, but should be referred to in in the third
person.
Authors should also prepare their submissions according with the
