Computational Social Network Analysis : Tools and Trends
Social networks have always influenced the decisions an individual take, starting from which products to buy to whom to vote for are influenced by the choices of his friends and acquaintances from social network. Recent developments of online social networks have helped in connecting people and bringing small and disconnected offline social networks together, generating an enormous amount of human interaction data and giving rise to many challenging research problems.
In this talk we we focus on few such important problems, namely - i) 'what are the key structural components of a social network?', ii) 'how does the network links appear and disappear over time?' and iii) 'how can we identify the key influential nodes in social networks?'. We also highlight the tools used to address the problems.

CRITICAL SOFTWARE
Software Design
Software is inherently complex. Acknowledging that such complexity is a characteristic and not an accident is the first step towards devising a strategy to address it. Even though possible approaches to software analysis and design have been widely discussed and documented, the truth is that their importance is still far from being widely acknowledged.
This session revisits the characteristics of industrial software as well as the ways in which specific programing paradigms and classification methods can help in creating simpler and more flexible designs - which are therefore easier to implement, test and maintain.

Following similar initiatives from previous years, the Department of Informatics (DI) of University of Évora (UE) hosts the 8th edition of the Workshop in Informatics of University of Évora (in Portuguese, Jornadas de Informática da Universidade de Évora, JIUE).
The participation is open to the entire community of the University of Évora that is interested in a public presentation of relevant work that fits the scope of this Workshop. This Workshop also aims to be a place to publicize all the activity related to Informatics in the University of Évora.
One of the reasons behind the creation of this Workshop was to provide the MSc and PhD students with one opportunity to present their work publicly, promoting the interchange of ideas with a wider audience. In this context, we invite students to submit the work made during their dissertations, thesis or other relevant works. Moreover, the Workshop also includes presentations of works made in the context of curricular units from the PhD in Informatics.
